Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of these terms

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Slate Explorer application and related services (the "Service"), operated by Slate Interactives ("Slate", "we", "us"). By creating an account or using the Service you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. The service

Slate Explorer is a companion app for visitors to participating zoos and aquariums. It provides species information, scan-to-identify features, sightings tracking, audio tours, quests, and related content. Available features may vary by venue and may change over time.

3. Your account

You are responsible for activity under your account and for keeping your sign-in details secure. You may sign out or delete your account at any time from the app's settings; deleting your account removes your personal data as described in our Privacy Policy.

4. Subscriptions & payment

Some features require a paid Explorer pass. Subscriptions are billed through our payment processor and, where applicable, through the Apple App Store or Google Play. Renewals, cancellations, and refunds are handled according to the rules of the store you purchased through. [Pricing, renewal cadence, trial terms, and refund policy to be finalised.]

5. Family Sharing

Family Sharing lets a group owner invite others into a shared group via an invite code. Group owners and members may see limited shared information as described in the app. You are responsible for who you invite.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to misuse the Service, including by attempting to disrupt it, reverse-engineer it, access it through unauthorised means, or use it unlawfully or in a way that endangers anyone at a venue. Always follow venue rules and staff instructions.

7. Content & intellectual property

The Service, its content, and its branding are owned by Slate Interactives or its licensors. Species data is drawn from third-party sources and remains the property of those sources. You are granted a limited, personal, non-transferable licence to use the Service.

8. Use by children

The Service is designed for family use and may be used by children under the supervision of a parent or guardian. A parent or guardian must set up and manage any account used by a child and accepts these Terms on the child's behalf. See the Privacy Policy for how we handle children's data.

9. Disclaimers & liability

The Service is provided "as is". Species identification and information are provided for general interest and may not be complete or accurate. To the extent permitted by law, Slate Interactives is not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of the Service. [Final liability wording subject to legal review.]

10. Termination

You may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or end access where these Terms are breached or where required by law.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes we will update the "Last updated" date and may ask you to acknowledge the new Terms in the app.
